Summer Internship Opportunity - Interfaith Worker Justice
"Justice, justice you shall pursue, that you may live..." (Deut 16:20).
"He who withholds an employee's wages is as though he has deprived him of his life" (Baba Metzia 111a). As Jews, we are challenged to live out the Torah's call to pursue justice and stand with workers in their pursuit for lives characterized by fair treatment and respect. Apply for the Interfaith Worker Justice Summer Internship!
You will start the program in Chicago for an education and exciting orientation week, before spending the summer in one of several locations around the country supporting workers in low-wage jobs. The internship runs from June 8 to August 15, 2008. Undergraduate students will spend the summer engaging religious communities on worker justice-related public policy issues while developing skills such as coalition building, organizing, advocacy, and social analysis. Students will work in diverse, interfaith pairs and have professional and theological support from local and national IWJ staff. Information and applications can be found online at http://www.iwj.org/outreach/students/iwj_summer.html, or by contacting Julia Leis at jleis@iwj.org or (773) 728-8400 ext. 38.
