(Miami University, Oxford, OH) On Sunday, January 25, Miami Students for Israel and the American Jewish Committee co-sponsored an Israel Advocacy Training Program. David Bernstein, the current director of the Washington Office of the American Jewish Committee spoke at Hillel about the effective methods students can use to help promote and support the State of Israel. Using examples of historical information and facts, Bernstein educated 20 students about ways they can support the Israeli cause and disprove public misconceptions.

Senior, Dave Friedenberg from Cincinnati and former President of Miami Students for Israel helped to organize the evening’s program. He said, “After two hours of discussing the importance of Israel, we came up with good ways to communicate these ideas to other people. We also brought up common criticisms of Israel and how to respond to such verbal attacks.”

David Bernstein, a graduate of Ohio State University and University of Dayton, works to address issues of concern in the Jewish community. He currently serves as the Chair of the Hate/Violence Committee for the Interfaith Conference of Metropolitan Washington and initiated and coordinated the anti-neo Nazi rally in Washington D.C. in the summer of 1999. Bernstein works as a strong leader to help educate about Israel awareness and Jewish student movements on campuses across the country.

Miami Students for Israel (MSI) is a student run organization created to facilitate and encourage healthy dialogue about the Middle Eastern conflict. All students are encouraged to become involved in MSI.

Hillel at Miami University provides a wide variety of social, educational, community service, religious, and cultural experiences for students and the community of Oxford.
