Letter to Request Excused Absences During Passover
Miami University provides a mechanism for students who need to miss classes for Jewish holidays, including Passover. The policy (Miami University Policy and Information Manual
section 10.1 on page 117) states,
"There are no University-recognized excused absences
except for religious observances that require absence from a class session and
other required class activities.Students must give written notification to their instructor within the
first two weeks of class of the religious event that prohibits class attendance
and the date that will be missed if officially known.Instructors will, without prejudice, provide
such students with reasonable accommodations for completing missed work. However, students are ultimately responsible
for material covered in class, regardless of whether the student is absent or
present."
The University requires that you ask the professor during the first 10 days of class (by 1/28/08). We provide you with a letter to facilitate this process which you can download from http://muhillel.org. Contact Amy or Dave at Hillel (email addresses with name or call 513-523-5190) and they will meet you to sign the letter or answer any questions.
