High Holiday Information
Celebrate the High Holy Days with Hillel & the Association of Jewish Students.
We will share together in meals (dinner before each night of Rosh Hashanah and before the Yom Kippur fast, lunches each day of Rosh Hashanah and FREE Break-the-Fast at the end of Yom Kippur), prayer, friendship and community. (Meals are $5 for students, $10 for community/faculty. Free with JEWLA card that also gives you discounts all year for $54. Miami University will reimburse meals for those with a Passport Meal Plan. Banner number must be provided to Hillel.)
All services are open to the entire community. Services are free for students, $36 for community/faculty for all services.

We need you! Participate in sevices by doing an English reading, leading a prayer in Hebrew, opening the ark, carrying the Torah, blowing the shofar, blessing the Torah or more. You can participate by letting Amy, Diogo or Dave know when you arrive at services, or sign up in advance by going to our website and filling in the form on the front page.

The High Holy Days are officially recognized holidays by Miami University. Download this letter for your professors then contact Amy or Dave and they will sign it for you to help you get an excused absence from class.

Your birthright - a FREE trip to Israel
Travel to Israel for FREE with Hillel this Winter Break or Spring Break. Spend an incredible 10 days in Israel with us. The trip is a gift from Taglit-birthright israel and is available to all Jews age 18-26 (unless you traveled to Israel with your peers).

Apples and Hookah
Apple shots, hookah, and free food to celebrate the new year!
This new year's going to be different! Instead of having just plain old apples and honey, you can have apple flavored tobacco in an awesome hookah while having sweet honey on the side to complete the deal. Come try some on Wednesday, September 19th at Hillel from 8:30-9:30pm.

Going Home For The Holidays?
Need a Ride/Give a Ride!
Are you going home for either Rosh Hashanah and/or Yom Kippur and either need a ride or can offer a ride? If you would like help finding people to ride home with, Hillel can help! Simply email Amy with the day and time you plan on leaving/returning, how many spots are needed/being offered, and the destination. If there is a match, Amy will email the people in similar situations to put together a potential carpool. (Please let Amy know if you would prefer for her not to give out your contact information.) Please note: Hillel will not take responsibility for any rides, this is just a helpful service we are trying.

Diversity Consortium for Students and Faculty
at Slippery Rock University Thurs. Nov 1- Sat. Nov 3
The theme for this year is "A Call to ACTION." The conference is at Slippery Rock University Thursday, November 1- Saturday, November 3. The registration fee is $75 for students before Oct 1 and $125 after Oct 1.
This conference is designed for students of color andtheir allies to come together to address issues pertinent to their success at predominantely white colleges.
Come join Ambassadors for Children (AFC) on Saturday, October 6 at 10am for their annual 5K Walk/Run fundraiser. AFC is non-profit organization dedicated to helping children in need around the world. This year, the AFC-Miami Chapter will be traveling to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Malawi.
There is a $10 registration fee ($15 day of) and this includes a free t-shirt! The money raised will go towards helping children in these countries. The walk will begin and end at Millett. Please download the registration form by going to http://www.units.muohio.edu/lifelonglearning/

Mortar Board Class of 2008 Shirts
Mortar Board is selling the official Class of 2008 t-shirts. They cost $10 and come in S-XL. They are red with white writing. On the front on the left they have the block "M" with "Class of 2008" on top and "Miami University" underneath. On the back there is a picture of the Miami lantern with a quote from one of the sculptures on campus underneath.
