Greek Pledge
Shabbat Hillel will
honor all
of the Greek pledges from all Fraternities &
Sororities during the Shabbat service on
Friday, February 23rd. Afterwards, we will
have a special kiddush upstairs and then you
have can choose between a free meal at Hillel
(thanks to Cinci Jewish Fed) and going out
with the group to BW3s (you are responsible
for the cost of your dinner). For more

Pottery
Night! Come to Hillel on
Thursday, March 1st for a special pottery
event. We
will meet at 6pm for dinner and Hamantaschen
making. (Hamantaschen will be enjoyed the
next night, Friday, 3/2, see below.)
At 7pm we will head over to "You're Fired"
to paint
some pieces of pottery. Hillel will cover the
studio fee. For more information, talk

Purim
Shabbat Mark your calendars
because Friday, March 2nd is Purim
Shabbat.
Come to
Hillel dressed as your favorite Purim
character. We
will have a costume contest, festive holiday
decorations, and hamantaschen! For more

Anti-Semitism
Lecture - March 19,
2007 Dr. Jan
Gross
of Princeton University will speak at Miami on
Monday, March 19 at 5pm in Leonard Theater in
Peabody Hall.
Professor Gross will speak on his recent
book, Fear:
Anti-Semitism in
Poland after Auschwitz: An Essay in Historical
Interpretation. Free dinner will be served at
Hillel at 7:30 pm (see RSVP info below). This
program is co-sponsored
by the
Center for American and World Cultures and the
Center for Holocaust and Humanity Education with
support from the
College of Arts and Science.

Women's
Center Read In
The
Women's Center and the Miami University
Libraries are pleased to
announce the first annual Women's Read In.
It will be on Thursday, March
1, 2007 from 11am - 2pm in the Instructional
Materials Center (IMC) of
King Library.
Please join us to celebrate the literary
works of women by selecting a 2-4
minute passage to share. Students, faculty,
staff, and community members
are encouraged to bring any work written by
or about women. This is also
a wonderful opportunity to share your
original work. Poetry, prose,
letters, or portions of a novel - anything is
welcome! If interested in
children's literature, you may find a
selection in the Girls Voice
Literature Database:

There is
also a display of girl-positive books in the
IMC you are welcome to check

Charity Auction
The Honors and Scholars Advisory Board is
holding a Charity Auction - proceeds benefit
Family Resource Center on Sunday, March
4th from 12:30-3pm in the Shriver Heritage
Room.
Silent Auction begins at 12:30 p.m
Live Auction 1-3 p.m.
All proceeds benefit the Family Resource
Center - in the past the auction has provided
nearly a third of the Center's budget.

Students will go around
to businesses and sign them up for the new card
(create a card of your
own/follow the existing card). He will be

town in the next
month and will train the students on how to

You will work about 10 hours a week
and get
paid around $500 a month to do it. If interested

Looking for
Spring Break Plans? The
Lambda
Sigma Society at MU is seeking participants in a
Spring Break Service Trip to Mississippi to build
homes for people displaced by Hurricane
Katrina. We
are able to keep the cost for the trip to
only $100
per student plus some meals and minor expenses.

Steiner
Internship
in Yiddish Studies The
Steiner Summer Program for College Students
at the
National Yiddish Book Center selects 18
students for
eight weeks of immersion in Yiddish culture.
Interns
study the Yiddish language, the Jewish culture of
Central and Eastern Europe, and work with the
Yiddish Book Center's comprehensive collection of
Yiddish literature. Each intern is awarded a
stipend and provided with free housing;
university
credit for two upper-division courses is
available
at no extra charge. The Steiner Internship is
open
to all full-time university students and runs
from
June 3 to July 27, 2007. Applications are due by
March 1, 2007.

Summer Internship in
Journalism & Strategic Communications
This summer, The Israel Project (TIP) is offering
its premier pro-Israel leadership program for
up-and-coming journalists, political
scientists and
pro-Israel advocates.
For nine intensive weeks, 20 of the best and the
brightest college students and recent
graduates will
work with TIP in one of two locations:

Jerusalem, Israel
Since the media is the number one source of
information on Israel, this program teaches
participants how to reduce anti-Israel
sentiment and
enable people to more fully understand Israel's
current and future challenges.
TIP Media Fellows will benefit from this unique
opportunity by gaining the broad,
out-of-classroom
experience that is vital for securing serious
post-graduate career opportunities.

Dig in Israel this Summer for 6 Credits!
|

Dig in
Israel
June 4th - July 6th
REL 499/599 6 credits
In this 5 week summer field course, students will
participate in the Lahav Research Project IV, an
archaeological dig in southern Israel. We will
excavate the material remains of an Iron Age
II city
(ca. 700-586 BCE) to understand ancient Near
Eastern
history, daily life activities, gender and
society
roles, space utilization, town planning, trade,
political relations, and the development of the
religious traditions of ancient Israel.
No previous archaeological training is necessary;
students will learn the techniques and methods of
modern Near Eastern archaeology including field
excavation, pottery analysis, laboratory
processing,
and the recording and interpretation of
artifacts.
Daily lecture, workshops, and organized weekend
trips to archaeological, historical and religious
sites will be lead by professional archaeologists
and scholars. Students will live in a kibbutz
guesthouse (2-3 to a room) with dig
participations
from other US and international
universities.
Enrollment in the field course is limited to 25
students with the director's permission.
Students
will earn 6 credits (graduate or
undergraduate) in
Comparative Religion which can also be applied
towards the Jewish Studies minor.
Costs:
$1375 for Room, Board, Dig Fee, and
transportation
to/and from airport to dig site in Israel.
