Israeli General Ephraim Lapid Speaks on "Israel and U.S: Irreversible Alliance"
Miami Students for Israel invites you to hear Brigadier General Ephraim Lapid speak on Tuesday, January 30th at 5 pm in 336 Shriver. All are invited to a free dinner following the talk at Hillel at 6:15. For questions or more information contact Andy Bailer, President of Miami Students for Israel.

Bone Marrow Drive
There will be a bone marrow drive with the Gift of Life Foundation on February 12th from 5-8pm and February 13th from noon-3pm. Both days will be in 212 MacMillan.
Come get swabbed for the bone marrow registry- no blood draw needed.
Volunteers are needed to help with the bone marrow drive. If interested, contact Sarah Wolff.

Would you like to travel to Israel for FREE this summer? You may be eligible for a free trip with Taglit-birthright israel: Hillel. Spaces on our Hillel trip after classes end fill fast, so put the sign-up date on your calendar - February 15th at 9am.

Holocaust Remembrance Program
 

We Need Your Help!
The Holocaust Remembrance Program needs your help. We are pairing up with the Walking Theater Project to put together a presentation for Monday, April 16th. They would like some members of the Jewish community to accompany them to the Dayton Wright Patterson Air Force Base Museum to see the Holocaust exhibit on Feb 24 . Also, they will need volunteers for a workshop which will either be Monday-Wednesday Feb. 26-28 or Monday-Wednesday March 5-7 in the evenings. If interested email Jenny with what days work best for you.

Come to Swing Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 13th at 8pm for Love Muffins! We will be showing the movie Hitch, which will be raffled off at the end. There will be delicious muffins and other Valentine's Day food. After the movie, we will be playing condom bingo.

Jewish Learning & Shabbat - FREE Dinner & Services
 
Curious about Judaism? Join us for some fun, informal learning and FREE food.

Shabbat Services and FREE *special* dinner
Join us on Friday, Feb. 2nd for student-led services at 6:00 pm and FREE dinner at 7:00. All are welcome for services, dinner or both. This shabbat we will be having deli meat and three kinds of soup! A vegetarian entre will be available. Dinner is free, kosher and has vegetarian options. Come connect with old friends, meet new friends and enjoy great food! Hillel gratefully thanks the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati for sponsorship of the Shabbat Dinner Program. Questions? Discovering Judaism
This weekly free class and free dinner will be every Monday beginning at 7:15 pm at Hillel. The next session will be Monday, 1/29. Come learn with Rabbis from the Cincinnati Kollel. This program is open to everyone, no prior knowledge required.

Moving Toward Freedom: A Women's Tu B'Shevat Seder
A Women's Tu B'Shevat Seder to raise awareness of domestic violence in the Jewish Community will take place on Sunday, February 11th from 2-4:30pm. If interested, you MUST RSVP to Amy or call 513-523-5190 by February 6th. Students are free and there are scholarships available for others. Amy will coordinate rides. All women are welcome regardless of religion.

Counterterrorism expert Prof. Amos N. Guiora speaks in Dayton
Counterterrorism expert leads JCRC programs Feb. 8 Prof. Amos N. Guiora, director of the Institute for Global Security Law and Policy at Case Western Reserve School of Law, will present two programs for the Jewish Community Relations Council on Thursday, Feb. 8. At 4 p.m., he will lead the discussion Global Perspectives on Counterterrorism in 101 Fawcett Hall at Wright State University. At 7:30 p.m., he will present Morality in Armed Conflict, at the Boonshoft CJCE. Guiora served in the Israel Defense Forces for 19 years, retiring at the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was involved in the capture of the PLO weapons ship Karine A, the implementation of the Gaza-Jericho Agreement, the Israeli-Palestinian-Interim Agreement, and "safe passage" between the Gaza Strip and West Bank. At Case Western Reserve, he teaches and develops courses and laboratories on the legal and policy aspects of counterterrorism. For more information, call 937-610-1555. Do you need a ride from Oxford? Be a Student Court Justice
As a Student Court Justice, you can make a positive impact on the lives of other Miami students. The application can be found at online and is due by Tuesday, February 20th at 5pm to Gakill 247.

Apply for the 2007 Myrtis H. Powell Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to any full-time Miami student who has demonstrated leadership creating an inclusive campus climate, and has evidence of involvement in community activities. This $1000 scholarship is given in honor of Dr. Myrtis H. Powell, who served as Vice President of Student Affairs at Miami from 1989-2002. Applications are available in the Women's Center (206 MacMillan Hall), the Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity (Hanna House), the Office of Student Financial Assistance, or online. Applications are due by January 31, 2007

Presidential Forum & State of the Student Body Address
The State of the Student Body Address, given by current President Brian Alexander, will take place on Tuesday, January 30th at 6pm in Shriver MPR A. This will be immediately followed by an Open Question and Answer Forum with President Hodge and other members of the University. A reception will be held at 7:30pm. RSVPs are requested to Laura Walaszla by January 23rd. Dress is business casual.

Honoring Miami Students Who Make a Difference
Nominations are being sought for three university awards for this year

  • Employee Service Leadership Award
  • Senior Service Leadership Award
  • President's Distinguished Service Award
