Special Events - Celebrate 350! & Passover
 

Celebrate 350!
Celebrate over 350 years of Jewish life in North America! The Association of Jewish Students & Miami Hillel proudly celebrates the over 350 years that Jewish people have lived, laughed, worked and loved in North America. Join us for any or all of our programs during this 2 week celebration!

Movie Night! Tues. 3/28, 8 pm in Shideler Hall
Watch "School Ties" (staring Brendon Fraser, Matt Damon, Chris O'Donnell, Ben Affleck, Amy Locane and others) and join us for an optional discussion on anti-semitism following the movie.

Jewish Arts & Culutre - Architecture, Wed. 3/29, 5 pm in Alumni Hall, room 1
Seminar led by Dr. Gerardo Brown-Manrique on Architecture and Interior Design.

Hookah Party, Thur. 3/30 at 6 pm on Backyard patio of Hillel
Party with us in honor of our 350 years!! Information available on Muslim/Jewish relations in America.

Passover
Passover begins with the 1st Seder on Wednesday, April 12, 2006. All seders will be held at Hillel at 7 pm (1st seder 4/12 and 2nd seder 4/13) A number of different seders will be available for both the 1st and 2nd nights. You can eat brunch and dinner here at Hillel beginning with brunch on 4/13. Please see the sign up sheet for details.

Leadership
AJS (Association of Jewish Students) Exec Board meets on Thursdays at 7 pm at Hillel. All are welcome to attend the meetings. If you have an item which you would like added to the agenda, please email Rachel Cahn by Wednesday night.

Shabbat & Jewish Learning Programs
 

Shabbat
Friday, March 31st, all welcome. Weekly Shabbat Services and free Shabbat Dinner at Hillel. (Services at 6 pm, dinner at 7 pm.) Dinner generously supported by the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati. All welcome. For questions or more information, email Rosie Landau or Ilya Verzub.

Jewish Learning Programs:
Discovering Judaism weekly discussion & free dinner with Cincinnati Kollel, Mondays at 7:15 at Hillel.

Fundamentals of Judaism taught by Amy Greenbaum, our Director & Rabbinic Resource. Amy offers informal, discussion oriented classes on Jewish topics.

Weekly Torah Discussion every Friday at 2:30 at Hillel. Join Amy for an informal chat about this week's section of the Bible. All welcome.

Dayton Jewish Film Festival
Do you like watching movies? Are you interested in International Films? Go to the Dayton Jewish Film Festival from March 30-April 10, and watch powerful films that explore: Racism, Religion, Families, Love, and Overcoming Incredible Challenges. Presented Movies are:

Scholarship Nominations Sought
Nominations open for the Guy Potter Benton Award. This $250 cash scholarship award, named for Miami's 12th President (1902-1911), is intended for "a Miami University student who best exemplifies concern for religious values and spiritual qualities, and has been active in promoting such values on the Miami campus."
Eligibility: Undergraduate students enrolled on any Miami University campus for Spring Semester 2006.
Nominations forms: available at the Oxford Community Foundation office, 52 East Park Place, and also posted on bulletin board across from Room 218 Upham. Anyone familiar with a student's qualifications for this award may be a nominator. Self-nominations will be considered.
Deadline for nominations: Monday, April 10, 2006
Award date: Friday, April 28, 2006

KESHER Argentina Ambassadors
from Weds, May 24-Sun, June 4 for undergrad students. Get your travel on and join KESHER, the reform college movement, for a 10-day, hands-on social action and cultural exchange program. Sing. Dance. Pray. Speak a little Spanish. Build. Incite change! Get hands-on work with students from the Progressive movement in Argentina to perform acts of service and enjoy home hospitality for Shabbat. The trip costs $795 and includes round-trip airfare from Miami, accommodations, and all travel and program costs in Argentina.
