Special Events - Celebrate 350!
 

Celebrate 350!
Celebrate over 350 years of Jewish life in North America! The Association of Jewish Students & Miami Hillel proudly celebrates the over 350 years that Jewish people have lived, laughed, worked and loved in North America. Join us for any or all of our programs during this 2 week celebration!

Shriver 350 Rally, Tues. 3/21 from 12:30-2 pm
Stop by Shriver for free food and music - outside Shriver (even in the snow)!

Ladies' Night!, Wed. 3/22 6 pm at Hillel
Free dinner, learn to make an awesome dessert (rugealch) and get some info about some significant Jewish women in America.

Jews in North America for 350 Years? Yes! Thur. 3/23 7:30 pm at Hillel
Come have a free dinner and hear some stories highlighting our 350 years. Led by our Director and Rabbinic Resource, Amy Greenbaum.

Shabbat 350!, Fri. 3/24, 6 pm (services) 7 pm (dinner)
Come eat different Jewish foods at our free dinner following services. (More information below in Shabbat section.)

Movie Night!, Tues. 3/28, 8 pm in Shideler Hall
Watch "School Ties" (staring Brendon Fraser, Matt Damon, Chris O'Donnell, Ben Affleck, Amy Locane and others) and join us for an optional discussion on anti-semitism following the movie.

Jewish Arts & Culutre - Architecture, Wed. 3/29, 5pm in Alumni Hall, room 1
Seminar led by Dr. Gerardo Brown-Manrique on Architecture and Interior Design.

Hookah Party, Thur. 3/30 at 6 pm on Backyard patio of Hillel
Party with us in honor of our 350 years!! Information available on Muslim/Jewish relations in America.

Social & Sports & Leadership
 

Need Volunteer Hours?
Come volunteer with us at Cedar Village, a Jewish retirement home in Mason, on Sunday, March 26th from 1-4:30pm. We will visit with the residents and participate in activities. Amy will sign any form you may need to validate your hours for your organization, or just come for fun! You must RSVP for this program, we only have 2 spots left! To RSVP or for more information email Jenny - sign-up deadline is Tuesday, 3/21/06.

Broomball
Jews on Ice is excitedly getting ready for the new broomball season. Join us for Miami's most popular intramural sport. We need you!

AJ S (Association of Jewish Students) Exec Board meets on Thursdays at 7 pm at Hillel. All are welcome to attend the meetings. If you have an item which you would like added to the agenda, please email Rachel Cahn by Wednesday night.

Congratulations to Miami's Hockey team, headed for an East regional NCAA Hockey game against Boston College on Friday 3/24.

Women's Synchronized Skating won the National championship! Join them for a celebratory send-off to the World Championships at Goggin on 3/23 at 5 pm.


Shabbat & Jewish Learning Programs
 

Shabbat - Jewish Food Night for Celebrate 350!
Friday, March 24th, all welcome. Weekly Shabbat Services and free Shabbat Dinner at Hillel. (Services at 6 pm, dinner at 7 pm.) Join us for this special dinner in honor of 350 years of Jewish life in North America. Dinner generously supported by the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati. All welcome. Jewish Learning Programs:
Discovering Judaism weekly discussion & free dinner with Cinicnnati Kollel, Mondays at 7:15 at Hillel.

Fundamentals of Judaism taught by Amy Greenbaum, our Director & Rabbinic Resource. Amy offers informal, discussion oriented classes on Jewish topics. Next class: Jews in North America for 350 Years? Yes! Thursday, March 23rd at Hillel at 6:30 pm (discussion & free dinner).

Weekly Torah Discussion every Friday at 2:30 at Hillel. Join Amy for an informal chat about this week's section of the Bible. All welcome.

Yahrzeit Minyan
There will be a Yharzeit Minyan on Thursday, 3/23 at 6:15 pm for someone who needs to say kaddish. Please come help make the minyan. If you need to say kaddish for a deceased loved one or want a minyan for another reason, please email Rosie Landau.

Women's Seder to Raise Awareness of Domestic Violence in the Jewish Community
Jewish Family Service in Cincinnati is having a seder to raise awareness of domestic violence. As their invitation says, "Jewish women of all religious backgrounds and socio-economic levels live in conditions of intolderable injustice & suffering of many forms at the hands of their husbands and partners." The seder will be held Sunday, April 2, 2006 from 3-5:30 pm, cost is $18, Hillel will subsidize the cost so you need to pay only $10 RSVP to Naomi Fertman at JFS required by Friday 3/24. Please "cc" your RSVP to Amy to receive subsidy and to coordinate rides.

KESHER Argentina Ambassadors
Trip runs from Weds, May 24-Sun, June 4 for undergrad students.
Get your travel on and join KESHER, the reform college movement, for a 10-day, hands-on social action and cultural exchange program. Sing. Dance. Pray. Speak a little Spanish. Build. Incite change! Get hands-on work with students from the Progressive movement in Argentina to perform acts of service and enjoy home hospitality for Shabbat. The trip costs $795 and includes round-trip airfare from Miami, accommodations, and all travel and program costs in Argentina. Highlights from last year's trip include twenty college students enjoying five hands-on days of social action projects, and meeting the leader of Argentina's Progressive community who has founded an organization that provides thousands of needy Jews with such things as food, clothing, and medicine.
