Come to Cleveland for Presidents Day Weekend!: Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Agora Theater in Downtown Cleveland. Come party with college kids from campuses all around Ohio for a night of Israeli hip-hop with Subliminal! For those of you who may not know, Subliminal is one of the most celebrated hip -hop groups in Israel today! Housing can be arranged if you do not live in Cleveland. Pre-concert events with other colleges are in the works. Shabbat services and free dinner: The next Shabbat service and free dinner will be on Friday, February 3rd at Hillel. For questions or to volunteer to help with services email Rosie Landau (landaura@muohio.edu ) or Ilya Verzub (verzubi@muohio.edu ). Dinner is graciously supported by a grant from the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati. Sponsorship of a Shabbat dinner is also available. SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ISRAEL TRIP Are you from Cincinnati? Do your parents live in Cincinnati? If so, there is a significant amount of funding available for you to go to Israel (even if you have been before). The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati offers college students who graduated from Cincinnati area high schools (or whose parents reside in the Cincinnati area) grants of $3,000 for travel to Israel. Peer programs are covered, including a variety of programs from ulpans to ARMDI to Magen David to semester abroad studies. SCHUSTERMAN ISRAEL SCHOLARS AWARD
The Israel Scholar Development Fund of the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise is pleased to offer awards to encourage students to pursue academic careers in fields related to the study of Israel. Awards will be available to undergraduates who have already been accepted to a graduate program, graduate students who have received masters degrees in Middle East related fields who wish to pursue a doctorate and doctoral students who are writing dissertations related to Israel. Each award will be for $10,000. The grants are for one year. Doctoral dissertation awards may be used for tuition, books, living expenses, travel costs, and other expenses to enable dissertation research. All other awards will be for tuition and books. Proposals from candidates in all disciplines are welcome. Complete applications including transcripts and references must be received by January 30, 2006. For over 85 years WIZO (Women's International Zionist Organization for an Improved Israeli Society) has been at the forefront in addressing Israel's unique challenges and has earned worldwide respect and praise for their efforts. Learn from the Experts in the Field For the first time in its history, WIZO is offering interested students and social service professionals a 5-month certification program in the study and treatment of trauma.
The program, Beyond Trauma: Trauma Treatment and Life in Israel provides insight into Israeli society unattainable anywhere else and an opportunity to learn first hand from the experiences of Israeli social service providers.
