AJS (Association of Jewish Students) Elections!!
Hillel and AJS need you and want you! Share your ideas, your passion, your commitment and yourself. It’s time to elect new students to the Executive Board of the Association of Jewish Students. Information and applications are
online. Applications for officer positions are due Monday, November 28th by noon to Amy (director@muhillel.org).  Elections are Tuesday, November 29th at 6:30pm at Hillel.  Please come and vote!  Program Board applications for AJS are due to Amy by 5 pm on Wednesday, November 30th.  Terms run from December 2005-December 2006.
 
The Executive Board positions are:
President, Vice-President in charge of Programming, Vice-President in charge of Communications, Vice-President in charge of Religion, and Vice-President in charge of Finance. 
 
The Program Board positions are:
Social, FYSH (First Year Students of Hillel), UJC, Sports, Ladies Night, AEPi Representative, and Shabbat Dinner coordinator. If you have an idea for a new Program Board position, fill out an application and tell us all about it!

Sign up today for the Hillel Semiformal on Saturday night, December 3rd!  It’s going to be a blast in Cincinnati, with great music and great food!  The theme is “Dancing in the Lights.” No date required.  The signup deadline is the 29th of November, so be sure to sign up ASAP!

SPECIAL EVENTS
Semiformal    Save the date! Hillel semiformal, Dancing in the Lights, is Saturday night, December 3, 2005 in Cincinnati!  Cost is $20 for JEWLA Members and $25 for everyone else.  Get $2 off if you bring 2 canned goods with you to be donated to the local food pantry. Buses leave Hillel at 6:45pm and return at midnight.  You must take the bus to semiformal.   RSVPs are due by Wednesday, November 30th.  Contact Stacey Banchek (banchese@muohio.edu ) or Rachel Cowen (cowenrl@muohio.edu ) for questions.  This is going to be a blast so be sure not to miss it!



REGULAR EVENTS!
The next Shabbat service and free dinner will be on Friday, December 2nd at Hillel.  For questions or to volunteer to help with services email Ethan Karp at Karpes@muohio.edu. Dinner is graciously supported by a grant from the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati. Sponsorship of a Shabbat dinner is also available. Please contact Amy (director@muhillel.org) for more information or to sponsor a Shabbat dinner.

Do you need a quiet place to study? Hillel is available to you for studying anytime on any day of the week. You can contact any member of our exec board who can let you into the building with a few hours notice.



JEWISH LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Discovering Judaism happens every Tuesday night at Hillel at 7:15pm, led by the Cincinnati Kollel. Come for learning, discussion, and free dinner! The next DJ will be Monday, Nov 21st!

Hillel is working with local and national agencies to provide the most effective assistance to those affected by Hurricane Katrina in the Jewish and non-Jewish communities. Our Hillel is joining with Hillels across the country to raise funds to assist the relief effort as well as doing short and long-term volunteering. Email or speak with Amy (director@muhillel.org / 523-5190) for more specifics on how you can help.

IT'S JEWLA CARD TIME!
The JEWLA Card is back!  This year the card is being offered for a flat-rate of $54.00.  Card holder benefits are: all mailings/emails, free t-shirt, voting privileges to the Association of Jewish Students, all high holiday meals and services, brunch of Parents’ Weekend, discount on Passover seders and meals, and additional reduced prices on other activities throughout the year.  To sign up either fill out a form at Hillel or print it online and mail it in.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ISRAEL TRIP
Are you from Cincinnati? Do your parents live in Cincinnati? If so, there is a significant amount of funding available for you to go to Israel (even if you have been before). The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati offers college students who graduated from Cincinnati area high schools (or whose parents reside in the Cincinnati area) grants of $3,000 for travel to Israel. Peer programs are covered, including a variety of programs from ulpans to ARMDI to Magen David to semester abroad studies. Scholar Leader Program (Scholarships available)
The Scholar Leader Program is a proactive, supportive community dedicated to enhancing leadership and scholarship among its members and the broader University community. The Scholar Leader program is a residential living-learning program involving a one-year residence in Elliott or Stoddard Halls. Applications may also be found online at
www.muohio.edu/mlc (under the Living Groups link). Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Monday, November 28 to 111 Warfield. Candidates are notified by January 25 if they have been selected as finalists and asked to interview on Saturday, January 28.  Final decisions will be announced on Monday, February 13. Questions? Our two story building housing a TV lounge and game room, computer lab, free wireless internet access, and library is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, Sundays from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm, and during program hours. If you have a car and are planning to drive to Hillel programs and meetings, you must register your car with Paula. Unauthorized cars parked in our parking lot will be ticketed.
