JEWISH LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Discovering Judaism happens every Tuesday night at Hillel at 7:15pm, led by the Cincinnati Kollel. Come for learning, discussion, and free dinner! DJ is back this Tuesday, Nov 1st!

Between Two Worlds: Identity and Imagination- Jewish Literature Discussion Series: This year, Hillel is participating in an exciting book discussion series. Each of the book discussions are at 6:00pm at Hillel. Everyone is welcome. Free dinner related to the theme of the books will be provided. For more information and to register, contact Frances Yates. This program is co-sponsored by the Miami University Libraries, American Library Association, Center for American and World Cultures, Hillel Foundation, Jewish Studies Program, and Lane Public Library. Books are available to borrow at Hillel and King Library.

Hillel is working with local and national agencies to provide the most effective assistance to those affected by Hurricane Katrina in the Jewish and non-Jewish communities. Our Hillel is joining with Hillels across the country to raise funds to assist the relief effort as well as doing short and long-term volunteering. Alternative Winter Break Trip
Spend your winter break helping to rebuild structures and lives damaged by this year’s hurricanes. Trips are being planned and coordinated by Hillel International. Contact Jeremy (fellow@muhillel.org) or Amy (director@muhillel.org) for more information.



PARENTS' WEEKEND EVENTS AT HILLEL
Bring yourself, your friends and even your parents to Hillel anytime! We are having a number of
special events at Hillel during Parents’ Weekend, they are:
- Friday, November 4, 2005, 6 pm – Shabbat services and dinner. Free.
- Saturday, November 5, 2005, 10:30 am – 1:00 pm – Brunch. Cost of $10 for each non-student.
- Saturday, November 5, 2005, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm – BBQ Dinner. $15 per person.
- Sunday, November 6, 2005, 10:00 am – 11:30 am – Brunch for Jewish Greeks & Parents. Free event sponsored by AEPi. This brunch is open to all Jewish students who are in (or thinking of pledging) a fraternity or sorority. This is an opportunity to learn about how the Jewish community is involved in the Miami Greek system and answer any questions or concerns parents might have about going Greek. Questions? OHIO LOVES ISRAEL!
State-Wide One-day conference on Israel! Sunday, November 13th @ OSU
Depart Oxford at 8:15 am, return to Oxford by 10 pm
Get together with Jewish students across Ohio to discuss and learn about Israel. This one day meeting hosted by Ohio State Hillel will include students from Case Western Reserve, University of Cincinnati, Ohio University, Kent State, Miami, Ohio State and more!  An impressive lineup of speakers is scheduled.  Uriel Palti, Consul General of Israel, Areyeh Green, Advisor to former Minister Natan Sharansky and Elliot Mathias, Executive Director of Hasbara Fellowship will each lead workshops with titles such as “Inside Israeli Politics” and “Teach not Preach.” All views of Israel are welcome. IT'S JEWLA CARD TIME!
The JEWLA Card is back!  This year the card is being offered for a flat-rate of $54.00.  Card holder benefits are: all mailings/emails, free t-shirt, voting privileges to the Association of Jewish Students, all high holiday meals and services, brunch of Parents’ Weekend, discount on Passover seders and meals, and additional reduced prices on other activities throughout the year.  To sign up either fill out a form at Hillel or print it online and mail it in.



SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ISRAEL TRIP
Are you from Cincinnati? Do your parents live in Cincinnati? If so, there is a significant amount of funding available for you to go to Israel (even if you have been before). The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati offers college students who graduated from Cincinnati area high schools (or whose parents reside in the Cincinnati area) grants of $3,000 for travel to Israel. Peer programs are covered, including a variety of programs from ulpans to ARMDI to Magen David to semester abroad studies. Scholar Leader Program (Scholarships available)
The Scholar Leader Program is a proactive, supportive community dedicated to enhancing leadership and scholarship among its members and the broader University community. The Scholar Leader program is a residential living-learning program involving a one-year residence in Elliott or Stoddard Halls. The '05 - '06 Scholar Leaders will be hosting an
open house on Thursday, November 3 from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, November 9 from 8-10 p.m. in Elliott hall.  Prospective applicants will have the opportunity to meet current Scholar Leaders, learn more about the program, and tour the halls. Applications are available now from 112 Warfield.  Applications may also be found online at www.muohio.edu/mlc (under the Living Groups link). Applications are due by 4 p.m. on Monday, November 28 to 111 Warfield. Candidates are notified by January 25 if they have been selected as finalists and asked to interview on Saturday, January 28.  Final decisions will be announced on Monday, February 13. Questions? If you have a car and are planning to drive to Hillel programs and meetings, you must register your car with Paula. Unauthorized cars parked in our parking lot will be ticketed.
