SPECIAL EVENTS
Sukkot
The holiday of Sukkot begins at sundown on 10/17 and ends at sundown on 10/25. We have two sukkot for your use again this year, one at Hillel on the balcony off the living room and one on East Quad in front of Dennison Hall. The sukkot are always available to you for eating, studying or just being with your friends. Munchies, snacks and soda will be available at Hillel all week.
Join us for these fun and exciting Sukkot programs:
Hookah in the Sukkah, Thursday, October 20, 2005 at 7:00 pm in the campus Sukkah in front of Dennison
FYSH (first year students at Hillel) potluck dinner in the campus Sukkah on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at 5:00 pm. Bring something to share.
Senior Wine & Cheese in the Sukkah Seniors are invited to the Hillel Sukkah on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 6:00 pm for wine and cheese. Celebrate being a senior with us!

Shabbat Services and FREE dinner at Hillel - Friday, Oct 21th, 6 pm. For questions or to volunteer to help with services email Ethan Karp at Karpes@muohio.edu. Dinner is graciously supported by a grant from the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati. Sponsorship of a Shabbat dinner is also available. Please contact Amy (director@muhillel.org) for more information or to sponsor a Shabbat dinner.
 
Do you need a quiet place to study?
Hillel is available to you for studying anytime on any day of the week. You can contact any member of our exec board who can let you into the building with a few hours notice.



JEWISH LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
Discovering Judaism happens every Tuesday night at Hillel at 7:15pm, led by the Cincinnati Kollel. Come for learning, discussion, and free dinner! Note that due to the holidays, no discovering Judaism on Tuesdays 10/18 and 10/25.

Jewish Cooking Class, Friday, October 28, 2005 noon- 2 pm at Hillel. Why are certain foods linked to Shabbat and holidays in Judaism? Why is food so central to our culture? How are the foods we enjoy on Shabbat prepared? Come get answers to these questions and more as you help prepare Shabbat dinner for you and your friends. Amy and Paula will teach us and give us hands-on experience. We will be together from noon-2:00 pm.

Special learning opportunity with Rabbi Tropper, Monday, October 31, 2005 at 7:30 pm Rabbi Tropper from Monsey, NY will offer a free class here for the entire community on Monday, October 31, 2005 at 7:30 pm including a free dinner. This class on the subject of “Learning Deeper Meanings of Torah” is a special opportunity. All are encouraged to attend.

Between Two Worlds: Identity and Imagination- Jewish Literature Discussion Series: This year, Hillel is participating in an exciting book discussion series. Each of the book discussions are at 6:00pm at Hillel. Everyone is welcome. Free dinner related to the theme of the books will be provided. For more information and to register, contact Frances Yates. This program is co-sponsored by the Miami University Libraries, American Library Association, Center for American and World Cultures, Hillel Foundation, Jewish Studies Program, and Lane Public Library. Books are available to borrow at Hillel and King Library.

TZEDEK – MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE
The annual
pledge-a-meal drive to raise funds for feeding the hungry is coming up the week of October 31st to November 5th. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!! If you're interested in volunteering at the various dining halls in you free time to help people pledge their meals, contact Jeremy at 523-5190 or fellow@muhillel.org

Make a Differnce Day. Hillel is participating in the nation-wide Make a Difference Day event on Saturday, October 22, 2005. Volunteer with us to clean up the Oxford mobile home park and the railroad tracks through town. Call or email Jeremy at 523-5190 or fellow@muhillel.org to sign up and arrange for a ride.

Help with Katrina relief: we have Mardi Gras beads to sell on campus. The profit will go to helping with the relief effort. Want to help by buying or selling? Are you part of another organization that might want to help? Contact Jeremy at 513 523 5190 or fellow@Muhillel.org
Hillel is working with local and national agencies to provide the most effective assistance to those affected by Hurricane Katrina in the Jewish and non-Jewish communities. Our Hillel is joining with Hillels across the country to raise funds to assist the relief effort as well as doing short and long-term volunteering. Email or speak with Amy

CAMP WISE SEEKS ALUMNI
Camp Wise, the residential camp of the Cleveland, Ohio Jewish Community Center is seeking alumni in anticipation of its 100th anniversary in 2007. DARFUR CONFERENCE
Conference: "Crisis in Darfur" - A Conference for Scholars, Students, Activists, and Other Concerned Citizens, Friday, October 28 - Sunday, October 30 at The University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada.
Scholars, students, activists, and other concerned citizens are invited to participate in this landmark conference. Some of the world's most renowned scholars of genocide, including those doing the work on Darfur, and some of Canada's most active activists on Darfur will be presenting. Our two story building housing a TV lounge and game room, computer lab, free wireless internet access, and library is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, Sundays from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm, and during program hours. If you have a car and are planning to drive to Hillel programs and meetings, you must register your car with Paula. Unauthorized cars parked in our parking lot will be ticketed.
