International Competition: The Jewish Agency is proud to announce an exciting new opportunity: an international competition for Jewish students on the topic of contemporary visions for the future of Israel and the Jewish people. These visions can be written, artistic, musical, or presented in other creative ways. They should address the question: What is your vision of the Jewish People and the State of Israel in 2054? Written entries should be no longer than 3,000 words and must be submitted by May 15 to Ilan Wagner, at ilanw@jazo.org.il. Written materials should be sent in .rtf format and should include full name, address, university, e-mail and phone number. The authors of the selected visions will receive a free round-trip ticket including all expenses in order to visit Israel this summer for a five day conference to present their visions and to partake in a high level educational seminar with leaders of Israeli society, economy, politics and culture. Reaching Common Ground after the Passion: Submissions are now being accepted for "Reaching Common Ground" a new essay contest launched to improve Christian-Jewish relations in the wake of "The Passion." The contest solicits religious-themed essays that illuminate the common bonds shared by the two faiths. The $25,000 grand prize makes it the most lucrative student writing competition in the nation. Contestants ages 16-22 must write an essay responding to one of three theological questions posed at www.reachingcommonground.com Entries must be submitted by July 30, 2004. Outdoor Leadership Program: Teva Adventure, a not-for-profit organization that provides Jewish outdoor educational programs to the worldwide Jewish community, and NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) are teaming up to offer students an opportunity to experience natural beauty, excitement and challenge on a kosher outdoor wilderness program. Join one of our life-changing programs to gain outdoor leadership and teamwork skills in the mountains of Alaska or in the Pacific Northwest. Be

American Jewish Committee Essay Competition: A 650 word essay to be published in a new book dealing with Jewish identity/ies among Jews in their twenties. Essays should answer the question: "What does being Jewish mean to you as a 20-something living in your society?" Some things you might want to consider are Israel, spirituality, community, Jewish rituals and practice, tradition, family, food, culture, history, etc. We encourage you to submit essays, poetry, stories&Mac247;fiction based on fact&Mac247;as well as other forms of written representation. Ultimately, the essays will be compiled into a book that will serve as a guide to Jews in their twenties by Jews in their twenties. The book will be a compendium of voices that will, at once, serve as a window to the Judaism of people in their twenties to older generations and as a guide to younger Jews looking for ways to create and, in due course, celebrate their identities as Jews and as younger adults. The competition is an attempt to recognize and grapple with the fact that Judaism is increasingly a choice for young people rather than an obligation. Jews choose the ways in which they observe, believe, practice, and, ultimately, understand what being Jewish in a secular society is about. All essays should be sent via email only to fellowship@ajc.org. In the subject line, please write "AJC Essay Competition," with the essay as a Microsoft Word® attachment. Essays should be no longer than 650 words. THE FINAL DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS MAY 3, 2004. National Conference for College Women Student Leaders : The conference will be held June 3-5 at American University in Washington, DC under the theme Purpose, POWER, and Progress. Early registration fee for this 2-day leadership and networking experience, INCLUDING CONFERENCE FEES AND MEALS is $270 (add $90 additional if housing is needed.) Attendance scholarships are available; and applications for scholarship are due April 16. REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE ON DISSERTATION:
My name is Sandra Kirchner and I am a doctoral student in the psychology department at Miami. I am currently working on my dissertation research. I am interested in exploring the relationship between identity and spirituality in the lives of young women. I am contacting you because you are listed as the president of one of the several religious/spiritual organizations on campus. I am trying to include women from a variety of spiritual/religious (and even non-religious) background. Therefore, I was hoping that some of the women in your organization might be interested in participating in my project. I am looking for women between the ages of 13 and 22. Participation is in the form of two 1 1/2 to 2 hour long interviews. There are openings for the interviews most weeknights and weekends and they are held in Benton Hall. The first interviews will be in January and the second in February. There will also be a group discussion held in late January/early February, but participation in it is not required to participate in the interview segment.
