birthright israel: Hillel at Miami University is organizing a campus-based birthright israel trip in May/June. Register for Hillel's Winter Israel Missions: Hillel is once again offering its premier Winter Israel Mission this December! Get ready for one week of packed activity, learning and fun; the chance to meet Hillel leaders from around the country; the Steinhardt Shabbaton; a new Global Israel Showcase and more. This year's Israel Mission will offer three tracks: Advanced Advocacy, Pluralism, and Tzedek. Miami University Interfaith Israel Trip during Winter Break: My name is Jon Kroll and as part of my graduate studies program (College Student Personnel), I am coordinating a MultiFaith (InterFaith) Experience to Israel from December 26 to January 5. The overarching goal of this Experience is to unite students, staff, and faculty in an experiential activity that will allow for a better understanding of various faith perspectives. It is a hope that this Experience will encourage the participants to return to Miami and work towards creating a more welcoming environment for members of our University Community from all faith perspectives. I am currently working on garnering funding support to curb expenses for participants on this experience. If you are interested in participating, please do hot hesitate to call me at 9-6759.

A Boy, A Girl, A Virus Program Dec. 6 at Shriver Multipurpose Room at 7pm. Shawn and Gwenn tell their personal story of how they have dealt with Shawn being HIV positive. CONFERENCES
The Spitzer Forum is a three-day conference for Jewish students interested in social justice work through political activism and grassroots organizing. Issues explored may include education, literacy, environment, health, poverty and more. February 27-March 1 in Washington, DC. Students from around the world will: participate in skill building workshops; meet with experts on social justice issues; learn how the Jewish community is responding to these issues; network with other campus activists. We live in a time of great change. Our communities and campuses, our nation and the world are being transformed at unprecedented speed. We can affect this change. The 2005 KOACH Kallah is almost here! Join us for Conservative Judaism at the Crossroads, with Rabbi Joel Roth and Rabbi Neil Gillman. Russian Student Shabbaton - Save the Date! The JCSC fellowship is a paid, one-year fellowship that enables recent college graduates to work on campuses across North America, helping students explore and celebrate their Jewishness in creative and meaningful ways. All participants receive a $1,000 exit stipend, and most qualify for an AmeriCorps Education Award voucher of up to $4,725 for continued education or repayment of student loans. Part-time Synagogue Librarian Sought: Judaic librarian sought for medium sized synagogue library in Cincinnati, approximately 7 hours per week during the academic year. Tasks include the selection, purchase, and cataloging and processing of library materials. Additional responsibilities include working with religious school staff and students, overseeing circulation, and other library functions. Knowledge of Judaica and library procedures required. The Workum Summer Intern Program is an eight-week paid position during the summer. Interns are placed at Jewish communal agencies in the Greater Cincinnati area. Our goals are to encourage our best and brightest youth to choose Jewish communal service as a career and/or to support and participate in the Jewish community as adults. Chicago-Area Residents: Academic Scholarships Available: Approximately $500,000 in scholarship funds will be available from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago for Jewish college and post-graduate students in need of financial assistance for the 2005-2006 academic year. Jewish Vocational Service administers the scholarship program and personally interviews all applicants before May 1. To apply, go to www.jvschicago.org and click on Scholarship Services. 15th Guild of Temple Musicians Young Composers Award: In its continuing effort to provide opportunities for young composers to create compositions which will enhance Sabbath liturgy and inspire the religious experiences of congregations, the Guild of Temple Musicians (an affiliate of the American Conference of Cantors) announces the fifteenth Young Composers Award. The competition is open to any Jewish musician born on or after January 1, 1970, and submissions are sought for a suite (a group of two or three movements) for solo instrument and piano. the submitted composition should have a duration of 10-12 minutes in length, and should be based on Jewish materials. Suggested ideas will be included in the information which applicants may obtain by contacting the competition chairman, composer Ben Steinberg.The competition is unique in that it is the only competition of its kind to include for the winner a cash award ($1800), a travel subsidy which will enable the composer to attend the premiere performance, and the submission of the composition for possible publication. Deadline for submission of entries, either received or postmarked, is January 7, 2005.
