Take Off Your Clothes . . .
and give them to charity! When you come back from Thanksgiving break, be sure to pack some unwanted, unused, and outgrown clothes--Hillel is having a thriftshop sale. All proceeds and remaining clothes will go to a clothes bank for less fortunate people. Bring your clothes to Hillel by Wednesday, December 1. Interested in helping with the thriftsale? Do you want a mentor in the business world? Someone who is a Miami grad? Who is Jewish? If you are a Jewish undergraduate student in a business related major, we have your connection. Do you need a mentor, a connection, someone to guide you, help you along into the working world? The Jewish Business Mentoring Program, A Family Affair will pair 20 qualified Miami students with mentors according to their fields, goals, and locations. birthright israel: Hillel at Miami University is organizing a campus-based birthright israel trip in May/June. Register for Hillel's Winter Israel Missions: Hillel is once again offering its premier Winter Israel Mission this December! Get ready for one week of packed activity, learning and fun; the chance to meet Hillel leaders from around the country; the Steinhardt Shabbaton; a new Global Israel Showcase and more. This year's Israel Mission will offer three tracks: Advanced Advocacy, Pluralism, and Tzedek. Miami University Interfaith Israel Trip during Winter Break: My name is Jon Kroll and as part of my graduate studies program (College Student Personnel), I am coordinating a MultiFaith (InterFaith) Experience to Israel from December 26 to January 5. The overarching goal of this Experience is to unite students, staff, and faculty in an experiential activity that will allow for a better understanding of various faith perspectives. It is a hope that this Experience will encourage the participants to return to Miami and work towards creating a more welcoming environment for members of our University Community from all faith perspectives. I am currently working on garnering funding support to curb expenses for participants on this experience. If you are interested in participating, please do hot hesitate to call me at 9-6759.

CONFERENCES
The Spitzer Forum is a three-day conference for Jewish students interested in social justice work through political activism and grassroots organizing. Issues explored may include education, literacy, environment, health, poverty and more. February 27-March 1 in Washington, DC. Students from around the world will: participate in skill building workshops; meet with experts on social justice issues; learn how the Jewish community is responding to these issues; network with other campus activists. We live in a time of great change. Our communities and campuses, our nation and the world are being transformed at unprecedented speed. We can affect this change. We can direct social and political movement by knowing how to influence public policy. Informed and articulate activists can change the course of history. You are invited to make a difference. The 2005 KOACH Kallah is almost here! Join us for Conservative Judaism at the Crossroads, with Rabbi Joel Roth and Rabbi Neil Gillman. This year's Kallah will take place at the University of Toronto on Feb. 24-27. Registration is just $185 and there is some scholarship money available. Applications are online at www.koach.org.
Russian Student Shabbaton - Save the Date! Feb. 11-13, 2005 in Bloomingdale, Ill., is a great opportunity for Russian students to express their Judaism through interesting sessions and discussions about Jewish identity and Israel. Apply Now to Join AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps is a one-year program combining work for social change, Jewish learning and community building in New York and Washington, DC! There is no cost for AVODAH. All participants receive health insurance as well as a living stipend to pay for food, rent and other expenses. Student loan deferrals are available. All participants receive a $1,000 exit stipend, and most qualify for an AmeriCorps Education Award voucher of up to $4,725 for continued education or repayment of student loans. The Workum Summer Intern Program is an eight-week paid position during the summer. Interns are placed at Jewish communal agencies in the Greater Cincinnati area. Our goals are to encourage our best and brightest youth to choose Jewish communal service as a career and/or to support and participate in the Jewish community as adults. Chicago-Area Residents: Academic Scholarships Available: Approximately $500,000 in scholarship funds will be available from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago for Jewish college and post-graduate students in need of financial assistance for the 2005-2006 academic year. Jewish Vocational Service administers the scholarship program and personally interviews all applicants before May 1. To apply, go to www.jvschicago.org and click on Scholarship Services. 15th Guild of Temple Musicians Young Composers Award: In its continuing effort to provide opportunities for young composers to create compositions which will enhance Sabbath liturgy and inspire the religious experiences of congregations, the Guild of Temple Musicians (an affiliate of the American Conference of Cantors) announces the fifteenth Young Composers Award. The competition is open to any Jewish musician born on or after January 1, 1970, and submissions are sought for a suite (a group of two or three movements) for solo instrument and piano. the submitted composition should have a duration of 10-12 minutes in length, and should be based on Jewish materials. Suggested ideas will be included in the information which applicants may obtain by contacting the competition chairman, composer Ben Steinberg.The competition is unique in that it is the only competition of its kind to include for the winner a cash award ($1800), a travel subsidy which will enable the composer to attend the premiere performance, and the submission of the composition for possible publication. Deadline for submission of entries, either received or postmarked, is January 7, 2005. I will be abroad at Hebrew University in Jerusalem for the Fall Semester and will sublease my spot with a fabulous group of senior girls at Miami. Our beautiful furnished apartment is located in an ideal uptown location just a block from the uptown shops and restaurants! I have a new queen bed in a giant oversized room with one friendly roommate. We have a livingroom area, kitchen and great group of girls. You would need to interview with her to see if it would work out for the semester. I will be returning for my final semester.
