Jewish Life at Miami University
Miami has a vibrant Jewish life experienced in a wide variety of programming and groups. We are emboldened by many ideas and values, perhaps the most important one is that there is no one way to be Jewish at Miami. Jews at Miami are cultural, secular, Reform, Reconstructionist, Conservative, Orthodox and questioning. (Really, you don't have to be a super-Jew to come to Hillel. You only need to be part of the greater Miami family and either Jewish, the friend of someone who is or curious about Judaism.) The staff, leaders, and students of Hillel are here for you - in our building, on campus and in town.
College is a time for you to explore the meaning of Judaism in your life, to discover for yourself what it means to be universally human and distinctly Jewish. Hillel invites you to do this with the friends you make here, through our classes, programs, groups and with our staff. No question is unwelcome. Bring us your ideas, your hopes, your dreams or your questions. We are here for you.
How Many Jews are at Miami?
Approximately 1,000 of Miami's undergraduate population is Jewish. Over 60% of them are connected to Hillel or its groups. In an average year, our Hillel has between 5,000 and 6,000 participants in its programs. Participants are often part of one of the following communities at Miami: undergraduate students, graduate students, Miami faculty/staff, Jewish residents of Oxford, parents and alumni. All events are open to anyone. Hillel at Miami University proudly welcomes you and does not discriminate on the basis of religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, color, national origin, age, or veteran's status.
You are welcome to participate in any of the following groups & programs or suggest a new one!
